NEVER AGAIN

The other night, after already having broken my rear view mirror (an almost $300 fix...) I decided that gee, it would be a good idea to bleach my hair and dye it red. Using a container of rockin' red Manic Panic. Clearly I didn't do my research, and forgot one of the major rules of mixing colors. I think you'll be able to figure it out yourself after seeing the pictures.

So, Step one: I "bleached" my hair. As you can see, I did a crappy, crappy job. I'm thinking I didn't add enough developer to the bleach, because it barely covered my top layers. So at this point, I'm already thinking that maybe this isn't such a good idea. But then I'm like, nahhh, it can't get any worse right? Boy was I wrong...

Next, I added the red to my hair. This time, I had plenty to cover my hair with. As I saw the color I started thinking it looked a bit bright.... but most hair dye doesn't turn out the color it looks when you're using it So I continued on, leaving it in my hair for the suggested time. I wasted it on my reading an old issue of Vogue but really wasn't all that worried yet.

After that, I got in the shower, rinsed it out. There was a lot of dye coming off... But this kinda coincided with my other experiences dying my hair, and I had put a lot on. Then I got out of the shower. The mirror was really fogged up, so I went about my normal business. Then I went in my room, and looked in the mirror. It was a real "Oh SHIT" kind of moment. It looked more hot pink than red. I looked ridiculous. Then came the worst part: there was no way I was hiding this from my mother. So, I wrapped my still-damp hair up into a towel and headed downstairs to show her what I'd been doing for the past two hours. I had to explain to her that I had bought the dye and bleach myself, and she freaked. She was sure that my hair was going to break off, and that it couldn't be fixed. But worst of all she Disappointed in me. And every teenager knows that Disappointment and pink hair are the two worst punishments you could possibly have. Thankfully, she said that I could go to the salon and get it fixed tomorrow. So I went to bed, and almost forgot about it. The next day, I stayed in until i had to leave, and even then I wrapped my head with a turban (thank god they're in style!). My mom had explained what had happend to my stylist over the phone, but she was shocked when I took the wrap off. But thankfully, an hour and a half later my hair had gone from this
To this

Relief! And, for being a "fix this anyway you can" color, I'm pretty happy with it. I'll just have to adjust to the darkness of it.

But my lesson has been learned: No more experimenting with dye at home. Learn from my mistake if you can. Or give me help the next time I feel the need to dye my hair on my own. At least some people got a good laugh out of this....
